Horizon Durchbruch bei Hochleistungs-Brennstoffzellen - Lithium-Ionen-Batterieausrüstung

4G photocell: HorizonFuelCell Technology announced a breakthrough in ultra-thin, high-performance graphite bipolar plate technology, laying the foundation for the next generation of automotive fuel cell power generation.

Bipolar plates play an important role in proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells. The function of bipolar plates (also called separators) is to provide gas flow channels, prevent hydrogen and oxygen in the cell gas chamber from being connected, and establish a current path between the cathode and anode in series. On the premise of maintaining a certain mechanical strength and good gas resistance, the thickness of the bipolar plate shall be as thin as possible to reduce the resistance to current and heat conduction, and provide electrical connection between single cells.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

The latest development of Horizon has achieved a plate thickness of 0.85mm, which was previously only available for metal bipolar plates. This makes the power density of the fuel cell exceed 4kW/L, which is 100-200% higher than most graphite plate designs and 20-40% higher than most metal plate designs.

The emerging requirements for PEM fuel cells inevitably lead to higher power systems, and the importance of power density is obvious. This is often accompanied by very demanding durability and service life expectations, which are difficult to meet when relying on metal bipolar plates.

Graphite bipolar plates are widely used in fixed fuel cell systems, and have excellent conductivity and long life. However, traditional graphite sheets are usually two to three times thicker than metal sheets. This limits the use of automotive applications where compact dimensions and weight are very important.

The performance of fuel cells is affected by the design of "flow field", which describes the way reactants and exhaust gas move through the bipolar plate. Due to the limitation of metal formation, optimizing the flow field is a challenge for metal bipolar plates; However, with molded graphite plates, the flow field design is almost infinite. This has laid the foundation for the next generation car stack with higher power density.

George Gu (Gu Zhijun), CEO of Horizon, commented: "Horizon's ultra-thin graphite plate eliminates concerns about the thickness of plate components in automotive applications, while providing excellent electrical performance and system life. Our customers do not need to make any compromise on cost or performance“

With the strong support of the Chinese government, the electrification of China's heavy vehicles is the driving force for the continuous innovation of zero emission vehicle technology, including fuel cell and related material technologies. Horizon combines its Chinese base with strategic relationships around the world to achieve technological breakthroughs and penetrate the global market.

Horizon has ambitious plans for its liquid cooled fuel cell, which has gone beyond automotive applications and is entering the field of fixed power generation. Mr. Gu promised, "You can expect Horizon to make greater contributions to high power fuel cell systems."

About Horizon fuel cell technology:

Horizon is the global leader of PEM fuel cell system. It has various fuel cells and adopts air cooling and liquid cooling design, which can provide fuel cell modules with a net output of up to 100kW. Horizon recently started production and testing at its new PEM fuel cell manufacturing plant in Rugao, China, with an annual stack output of 30MW.
